Geofabriform Damming Technology
The mold geofabriform methoddamming technology is a new construction technology for tailings pond engineering. It has strong applicability, mature technology and green environmental protection.
Based on slope sliding test, direct shear test and unconfined compression test, the dynamic performance of a tailings dam with geofabriform is better than that without it. Its acceleration amplification factor and vertical displacement are smaller.
The Fabric
The fabric of Geofabriform is made from high-tenacity multi-filament nylon yarn and it has a special texture that allows it to grip the soil, preventing erosion. The fabric also has a strong tensile strength and good elasticity, making it ideal for construction of dams. The fabric can also be woven into various shapes and sizes to meet the specific requirements of each project.
The Geofabriform method is a new technology that can build fine-grained tailings dams. It is especially effective in reducing the failure mode caused by the active earth pressure. In addition, it can improve the seismic performance of a dam.
Unlike traditional methods that require additional heavy equipment time to install, such as rock or precast articulated concrete blocks (ACBs), the Fabriform system can be installed faster because it can be laid in place by smaller machines like mini excavators and trenchers. The fabric is also able to adapt easily to slopes and contours, resulting in a uniformly patterned concrete liner system.
The full-tailing hydraulic reclamation split film yarn woven geofabriform piled dam can be constructed in a large reservoir Geofabriform area of a power plant ash dumpsite, a mine metallurgy industry tailings pond, etc. It has the following advantages: the aging resistance and anti-scouring safety of the dam are superior, the construction can be carried out in rain weather, the service life of the tailing warehouse can be extended and the cost is low.
The Concrete
Fabriform is a fabric formed concrete system that was developed and patented by Construction Techniques, Inc in the mid-1960s. It offers a fast, economical way to build erosion control revetments, landfill containment systems, holding ponds, port and wharf protection, bridge scour repair and other projects. It is a much better option than rip rap or concrete paving, due to its ability to provide hydraulic efficiency, resist lateral forces and reduce the likelihood of underscour.
The structure is field-stitched in place, then pumped with a highly fluid concrete mix that adheres to the fabric form. It is then allowed to cure in a variety of environmental conditions, based on the project requirements. Once cured, the fabric can either remain in place or be removed. Typically, the concrete is poured in layers to create the desired shape and strength.
The Geofabriform method of construction is a cost-effective alternative to other methods for tailings dams, such as rammed clay or precast articulated concrete blocks (ACBs). It requires less time and heavy equipment than other options. HYDROTEX fabric-formed concrete mattresses are also aging resistant and can protect other capping layers, sand, organoclays and other filtration media. These fabriforms help enclose and isolate contaminated sediment while shielding it from surging currents, battering breakers and ship anchors. The fabriforms also offer superior anti-scouring performance.
The Installation
The mold geofabriform methoddamming technology is a new way to build fine tailings dams, and it has the advantages of strong applicability, mature technology, and green environmental protection. In a recent project, this technology was applied to the transformation and heightening of the original dumping dam at the Xiaojiafen geomembrane suppliers tailings reservoir engineering site in Yunnan, China. The success of this project proves that the mold geofabriform methoddamming technique is an effective and economical solution for the transformation and heightening of tailings ponds.
Unlike rock or precast articulated concrete block mats, the Fabriform system can be installed on slopes up to 40 degrees. This allows for greater flexibility when designing a system, and it can be installed without the need to provide anchor trenches. This also saves time as the installation process can be completed with smaller equipment like a mini-excavator or trencher.
The geofabriforms are field sewn at the jobsite and then laid in position on the prepared installation area. They are then filled with a high-strength flowable concrete mix through the use of pumping. The cement is then consolidated through the fabric to form a hard, durable liner system. Once installed, the geofabriforms are watertight and can be used in a variety of applications including river, lake, sea dam slope protection, bank protection, wharf and other projects.
The Maintenance
With the advantages of simple construction, fast construction and good integrity, the geofabriform methoddamming technology has high popularization value. It can be widely used in river, lake and sea dam slope protection, bank, port and wharf projects. It can avoid the need for filling cofferdams and can be built underwater. It is easy to operate, aging resistant and anti-scouring safety performance are excellent. It can be constructed even in rainy weather, and its rising speed is quick. It can also be adapted to the transformation, heightening and application of power plant ash disposal areas and mine metallurgy industry tailing ponds.
Slope sliding test, direct shear test and unconfined compression test of the geofabriform made of geotextile and tailings sand show that its frictional and compressive properties are better than those of pure tailings sand. The acceleration amplification factor(Am) and the vertical displacement and horizontal displacement of the tailings dam with geofabriform under seismic acceleration input are smaller than those of the tailings dam without geofabriform. In addition, the failure mode of the latter is different from that of the former.
